Securing Michigans Future

Investing in youth is the best way to secure Michigan's future. While programs like Michigan Reconnect are a start, we must continue to inject investment into our schools to attract talent and businesses.I was a proud supporter of the Invest in MI Kids Ballot initiative because I knew that it would inject some much needed investment into our schools.

Investing In Our Public Schools
  • Per pupil spending is not the end all be able to strengthen our public school systems. We must ensure that our schools have the resources they need to support the long term growth of their students.

  • This means ensuring that schools have enough intervention specialists to help kids struggling in school. I know first hand the work that these specialists play in ensuring kids make needed advancements in reading and math.

  • Increase funding for before- and after-school programs to reduce costs for parents.

Supporting our Teachers
  • Our teachers deserve more than we are giving them. They deserve higher pay and an injection of resources into their classrooms so they can meet the needs of their students.

  • Teachers unions play a key role in advocating for the empowerment of teachers, shaping policy that will impact our school and advocating for the commonsense things that they know will improve the lives of our teachers and thus our students.

Post Secondary Education and Career Opportunties
  • We must maintain our commitment to programs like Community College for All and Michigan Reconnect. These initiatives are vital for retaining local talent and demonstrating our dedication to the long-term professional growth of every resident.

  • To address the shortage of skilled labor, we must strengthen partnerships with trade organizations. This will ensure students have a clear, accessible pathway to high-paying union jobs if they choose a career path outside of a traditional two or  four-year college.
